Brian Andreas - artist and storyteller extraordinaire.

Brian Andreas is an American writer, painter, sculptor and publisher from Iowa City, Iowa. He founded the StoryPeople foundation in 1994 and has subsequently published 9 books containing stories and illustrations that explore life's joys and miseries.

  • Mostly True (1993)
  • Still Mostly True (1994)
  • Going Somewhere Soon (1995)
  • Strange Dreams (1996)
  • Story People (1997)
  • Hearing Voices (1998)
  • Trusting Soul (2000)
  • Traveling Light (2003)
  • Some Kind of Ride (2006)

Of his work, Andreas says, "I like art that admits to being a part of life. The moments I have with my friends and family are really all that I need. I like to take them and weave them into stories that are filled with laughter and music and lunacy. And they are mostly true, but I'm not telling which parts."

I purchased his book Mostly True for my friend Emily's birthday this month. It was in black and white so the illustrations were not as lively and beautiful as you see here. Nonetheless, it is an enchanting little collection of anecdotes that are both comforting and subtly terrifying. They emphasize the simple loveliness of life but also its brevity. I highly recommend it! Also, I'm thinking of purchasing one of his artworks... which do you like best?? Google "Brian Andreas art" and leave your opinion in a comment below. There are too many to decide!

Happy Easter! Have a sweet holiday!
